A Clean Heart

Proverbs 25: 1-14
1 These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal things,
but the glory of kings is to search things out.
3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,
so the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver,
and the smith has material for a vessel;
5 take away the wicked from the presence of the king,
and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence
or stand in the place of the great,
7 for it is better to be told, “Come up here,”
than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.
What your eyes have seen
8 do not hastily bring into court,
for what will you do in the end,
when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
and do not reveal another's secret,
10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
and your ill repute have no end.
11 A word fitly spoken
is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold
is a wise reprover to a listening ear.
13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest
is a faithful messenger to those who send him;
he refreshes the soul of his masters.

Father, that is my prayer today. Create in me a clean heart. Take the impurities that I always stumble over and teach me with them. I yearn for your holiness, teach me the rareness that is You. When earthly things fall all around, show me your Glory. Remind me that you sit on Your throne in all times, good or bad.

Pastor Dad

I just started reading an amazing book by Pastor Mark Driscoll, the name of the book is titled Pastor Dad. You can read the ebook here for free. I found a few paragraphs in the first chapter I wanted to share.

"The wisdom for Christian fathering is scattered throughout Scripture and concentrated most particularly in Proverbs. In Proverbs 3:11–12 the father says, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” Before any father disciplines his children, he is commanded to delight in them. Practically, this means that most of a father’s time is spent enjoying his children, encouraging his children, laughing with his children, being affectionate with his children, and enjoying his children so that there is a deep bond of love and joy between the children and their dad.

Part of that love includes a father disciplining his children as needed to keep them on a path of wisdom and righteousness. This pattern is to be modeled by the father who has God as his Father and gladly receives instruction and correction from God the Father and other authorities God has placed over him (e.g., church elders and other leaders). Therefore, a godly father models submission to authority and the welcoming of correction by repenting of his own sin, receiving forgiveness, and walking in restored intimacy with God the Father by empowering grace. All of this is the essence of love, as sin leads to death and hell, and discipline leads to repentance, which points us back to life and God. Practically, this means that a good father lives out the gospel every day in fellowship with God and his child, and that he knows what to do about sin in the life of his child because he’s been dealing with his own sin in his own life first." From Pastor Dad by Mark Driscoll

Being a father is such an amazing responsibility, but always remember that this amazing relationship between Father and Child is displayed for us all through scripture.

Allow your kids to get to know their heavenly father by watching their earthly father. Regardless of what you think, they are watching your every move. What are you teaching them?

Jaxson Braydon Dorsey

My little sister Summer gave birth to her son yesterday. Jaxson Braydon Dorsey came into the world. He is a handsome little guy.

As we left the hospital last night I could not help to think about how great and perfect the plan of the Lord is for all of our lives. Regardless of how we attempt to plot and plan our lives to every detail, the Lord will come in and bring us to the understanding that He is on His throne and in control.

Justin and Summer, I am so excited about the birth of your little boy. I have no doubt that you will be wonderful parents in every way. Enjoy every moment, because they seem to pass rather quickly.

Baby Jaxson, my prayer for you is the same prayer I have for both of my boys. I pray that you know Jesus and to grow in the understanding of how to be a man of faith. I pray great things for your life, but more importantly I pray that you walk in the humility and likeness of Christ.

It will be fun when we get all of these boys together. Let's see we have Jacob, Kaleb, Eli, Noah and now Jaxson. Don't forget Baby Brady will be here in January. Fun times. That's a big family of boys.

You Said

"You Said" by Shane and Shane
You said, "ask and you will receive whatever you need."
You said, "pray and I'll hear from heaven,
and I'll heal your land."

You said Your glory will fill the earth
like water the sea.
You said, "lift up your eyes;
the harvest is here, the kingdom is near."

You said, "ask and I'll give the nations to you."
oh Lord, that's the cry of my heart.
distant shores and the islands will see

Most of us don't think about it, or choose to ignore the fact that in our cities, our states and the country we live in, there is a steady decay to our moral fiber. We compromise more than ever in every way.

This song is a promise from the Lord of his untapped blessing on our lives and land. This promise has been extended since the creation.

It is time for men and women of The Church to fall to our knees. We must humble ourselves before a perfect savior that can heal our pain. Are you hurt, I know I have been hurt many times? Are you mad? Are you broken?

Lay these things at the feet of Jesus, and as He says in His Word, "I will give you rest"

Don't Worry

Matthew 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself, Each day has enough trouble of its own." (NASB)

I really get caught up in a constant worry fest at times. I think about what is going to happen next week, I worry about if I am raising my boys correctly. I constantly think about their futures, am I saving enough for their college. I am even guilty of worrying about things that I have no control over, like the past for example. The past is behind us, why am I worried about a choice I may or may not have made?

In the context of this Jesus is teaching about the way we should live our lives, he is teaching that your heart and the fruit that you bear show the type of person that you are. In the previous verse Jesus says "33 But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Jesus is not giving us a suggestion, He is providing us a living map of how we should live our daily lives. Remember Jesus is not just giving these statements from above as general rules, He walked and lived on this earth. These are personal statements because He saw how consumed people get with the constant worry of their everyday lives.

Worrying does nothing but keep us from thinking and most importantly doing the things that are precious in our lives. How much time did you spend today worrying about something that you have no control over? Set your sites on the Lord, and live today as if you are not promised tomorrow.

Today, the challenge for me is to tell everyone in my life how I feel about them. Did you tell your spouse this morning that you loved them? Did you spend that extra minute reading your son or daughter a book? Make time today, live in the moment. Spend some time with your Saviour. When is the last time you did?

John 1

John 1: 1-5 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (ESV)

Many of you have walked through this crazy story that is my life, this blog is not just about that. It is about who I used to be, who I am now, and what I am becoming. As I am new to this blogosphere, I need your suggestions and support through this walk that is my life. Many have played many different roles in making me the man I am today. Some of your roles are from the past, some are helping mold me into the present. I am thankful for all of you, you know who you are.

Some of you may know that in 2003 I surrendered my life the Lord's ministry. I served on staff at churches as a intern, youth minister and pastor. Two years ago, we were very hurt by the church. I took my family and ran as fast as I could, never looking up. Over the past two years I have been doing everything I could to suppress this calling that Jesus has placed on my life. I think I just put my head down and went into survival mode.

On Sunday, during a church service at Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport, the Lord got my attention. He made me aware that I have been ignoring the one key tool that I have, His Word.

I have studied John 1 many times, but it really became fresh and alive this morning. The scripture says the the Word was there in the beginning. At the beginning? Wow! So at the beginning of creation, God's Word was living. Later in verse 14 it says that "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.." This Word that we have became Jesus in living form. The Lord just reminded me that He is right with me at all times, and I have the living, breathing, life changing Word at any time.

This is such an awakening reminder to me. This reminder, although it may seem so simple to some. Is life changing for me and my family. Jesus has a plan, but it will be revealed in His Word.

I urge you to dust off that bible that you have, the Lord has a message for you. Regardless of where you are in life, He will speak to you through this living, breathing Word of God.
